Biography
Carmen Electra is an American actress, glamour model, and singer of Irish, German, and Cherokee descent. She is best known for her appearances in the Playboy magazine as well as for her roles as Lani McKenzie in the popular series Baywatch and Drew Decker in the film Scary Movie. She is also known for her reality show 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave and a series of workout DVDs called Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease.
Originally named Tara Leigh Patrick, Carmen was born on April 20, 1972 in White Oak, Ohio. Her father is Irish and her mother is of German and Cherokee descent. She started attending the School for Creative and Performing Arts when she was nine years old. As a teenager, she performed as a dancer in musicals and did her own choreography. By the time she was a teenager, she was performing in musicals (as a dancer) and doing her own choreographies.
Carmen started her career as a model for Target department stores in Minneapolis. After living there with her sister for four years, she shifted to Los Angeles. Out there, she met the pop star Prince, who suggested her to change her name to Carmen Electra. In 1992, he also offered her a contract with his label, Paisley Park Records. In 1993, she released her debut album Carmen Electra with the single Go-Go Dancer. However, it didn't do well.
Carmen next appeared in various television commercials. Her first break came when she posed for the Playboy magazine in 1996. It gave her the exposure she needed and she soon landed the role of the host of MTV's show Singled Out in 1997. However, the show was cancelled when it didn't become very popular and she started hosting the show Loveline.
But things were looking good for Carmen. She started playing the role of Lani McKenzie on Baywatch from 1997 to 1998. She hasn't looked back since then.
Carmen made her film debut in 1997 and has since appeared in several films. In 2000, she appeared in hit horror comedy Scary Movie. In 2001, she did the films Get Over It, Perfume, and Sol Goode. In 2002, she was featured in the films Whacked! and Rent Control. In 2003, she acted in the television film Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding as well as the films Uptown Girls and My Boss's Daughter. In 2006, she acted in Scary Movie 4.
In 2003, Carmen was a featured performer on the dance troupe Pussycat Dolls. That year, she also released her workout DVD series, Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease.
On the personal front, Carmen married basketball star Dennis Rodman in 1998. However, they separated after just nine days. In 2003, she married musician Dave Navarro, who was a guitarist for the rock band Jane's Addiction. Their courtship was featured in the reality show 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave (2004). In 2006, the couple separated.
