Biography
Alexis Bledel is a former American fashion model and film actress. She is best known for her role in the television series Gilmore Girls.
Kimberly Alexis Bledel was born on September 16, 1981 at Houston, Texas. Her father Martin Bledel, is Argentinean, and her mother Nanette Blake, is Mexican. She has one younger brother, Eric David Bledel. Owing to her Latin American origins Alexis spoke Spanish at home and learned to speak English only when she started school.
Alexis was a shy child and at the age of eight years, her mother encouraged her to act in the Houston community to overcome her shyness. She appeared in local productions of Our Town, Aladdin, and The Wizard of Oz. While she was attending Saint Agnes Academy in Houston, Alexis was scouted at a local mall for Company Management modeling agency. Barely 14 years old, Alexis relocated to Manhattan during her summer break from high school to work as a catalog model and traveled to cities such as Milan and Tokyo. Later she studied modeling and acting at the Page Parkes Center for Modeling and Acting and after graduating from high school enrolled in NYU's Tisch School of Arts to study writing and directing for one year.
Alexi started off her film career with a small uncredited part in Rushmore (1998). Over next 2 years she was seen in advertisements for prom dresses and lip gloss. However, the role that turned her fortunes was that of fast-talking, witty Rory Gilmore, daughter of Lorelai (played by Lauren Graham) Gilmore in WB's hit show Gilmore Girls (2000).
Alexis's popularity soared because of Gilmore Girls and in 2002, she was voted one of Teen People's "Hottest Stars Under 25". Her acting prowess in Gilmore Girls was also recognized and in 2002 she also won the Family Television Award for Best Actress.
In 2003, Alexis appeared as the main character in the video for Less Than Jake's She's Gonna Break Soon from their album Anthem.
In 2004, she was seen in the short film DysEnchanted and the Bollywood musical film Bride & Prejudice.
In 2005, Alexis appeared in The Orphan King and played a prostitute alongside Jessica Alba and Benicio Del Toro in Frank Miller's Sin City. Her role in Sin City was widely appreciated. The same year she also starred with Amber Tamblyn in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Alexis was romantically linked with her Gilmore Girls co-star Milo Ventimiglia for 3½ years before separating in the summer of 2006. She has also been linked to another Gilmore Girls co-star Jared Padalecki and One Tree Hill star Chad Michael Murray.
On the personal front, Alexis enjoys playing the piano, reading, hiking, taking photographs, and spending time with her family and friends. She also volunteers for First Book, a nonprofit organization involved in a national youth literacy program for the underprivileged.
Alexis is still going strong on Gilmore Girls and has collected numerous popular and critic's awards for her role. She is also making her mark in the movies and it won't be long before she becomes a permanent member of the Hollywood A-list.
