Videos more videos Biography Aishwarya Rai is an Indian actress and former model. She is best known for being the Miss World in 1994 and as a leading actress in many Hindi films including Devdas. Aishwarya Rai was born on November 1, 1973 in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. Her father was a merchant navy officer. When she was four, her family shifted to Mumbai. When she was in the 9th grade, she started appearing in commercials. She was not only beautiful but also was good at her studies. After finishing school, she got through the entrance exam for a course in architecture. However, she quit her architecture course when she started getting lucrative modeling offers. Aishwarya caught the attention of the public with her wet look in a Pepsi commercial. She soon had a busy modeling career. In 1991, at the age of 17, she entered the prestigious Ford Supermodel Contest on the suggestion of a friend. In 1998, Aishwarya played the dual role of Madhumitha and Vaishnavi in Jeans. She was winning more and more fans with each film of hers.
