Biography
Jenny McCarthy is an American model and actress. She is one of the most famous Playboy models and is best known as the host of MTV show Singled Out.
Jennifer McCarthy was born on November 1, 1972 in Chicago, Illinois. Her father is a steel foreman and her mother, a housewife. After graduating from high school, Jenny went to study nursing at the Southern Illinois University. She was hard up and it was getting tough to pay her tuition fees. She then decided to send her pictures to Playboy magazine to make ends meet. She apparently delivered them herself. This decision changed her life forever.
The editors of the magazine were impressed with her great personality and she got the contract to pose as Miss October 1993. Her pictures were amazing and won her many fans and the Playmate of the Year title. Money was no longer a problem for her. Now fame became her next milestone and she shifted to Los Angeles.
With the help of her then boy-friend and manager Ray Manzella, she landed a job as co-host on the MTV network. She became an instant success. She soon got the chance to tailor a show to suit her talents and the result was Singled Out (1995), the show that launched her stardom. The next step for Jenny was to create her own sketch comedy show, The Jenny McCarthy Show in 1997. Jenny became a big hit and she was signed on by NBC for a sitcom, Jenny (1997).
Jenny capitalized on her rising popularity and made her film debut in 1995 with Things to Do When You're Dead. (1995). She played a minor role as a blonde nurse; ironically, this was what she had set out to be.
In 1996, Jenny played her first major role as a hung-up movie star in The Stupids opposite Tom Arnold.
In 1998, she acted in the comedy Basketball. This was followed by the films Diamonds (1999), Thank Heaven (2001), The Perfect You (2002), and Scream 3 (2003).
In January 1999, Jenny got married to actor/director John Asher. Their son, Evan Joseph, was born in 2002. The marriage lasted only six years and the couple filed for divorce in August 2005.
In 2005, Jenny starred in Dirty Love (2005) directed by her then-husband John Asher. She also wrote the screenplay and produced the film. Though she was popular because of her sexual image and was a big hit on television, Jenny was not critically acclaimed for her acting prowess. In 2006, she was awarded the Razzie Award for "Worst Actress," "Worst Screenplay," and "Worst Picture" for Dirty Love. However, this has not deterred Jenny's image as a sex symbol and she is constantly in the news for her sexapades.
