Videos more videos Biography Halle Marie Berry was born August 14, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio. Her mother is a fair skinned, blue-eyed Brit and her father is of African American decent. Her parents divorced when she was four years old and she and her sister were raised by her mother who was a nurse. She was an excellent and ambitious student. She was class president, in the honor society and was a high school cheerleader. She has been celebrated for her excellent acting skills and for her ethereal beauty. She landed her first real TV role in 1989 playing Emily Franklin in an ABC television series called Living Dolls which was a spin-off from the popular series Who's the Boss? Her first ever feature film came in Jungle Fever. The movie was made by the famous Spike Lee. Her portrayal of the character, Vivian, a crack addict, won her rave reviews. She also co-starred in Strictly Business. In 1995 she won a large fan and critical base after her role in Queen: The Story of an American Family, by Alex Haley. She played a mulatto slave in this made for TV movie. In 2000 she won the part of Storm in the motion picture X-Men which was based on a comic book series of the same name. The move was a huge hit as was it's sequel X2: X-Men United, in which she also played Storm. Halle also stared in the 2003 film Gothika which did somewhat well at the box-office, her acting was praised for this movie. However, she did not do as well with Catwoman. She was awarded a Razzie for her role. But at least she had a sense of humor about it; she accepted the "Worst Actress Award" in person. Her attitude is a rarity in Hollywood, (accepting a Razzie in person, and having a sense of humor about a bad performance) and it says a lot about this woman. In 2002 she starred in Monster's Ball, her performance was highly praised by critics and fans alike; she won the Best Oscar Actress for her role. Amazingly, even though the year was 2002, she was the first African American to win the award. Tidbits
