Videos more videos Biography Liv Tyler is an American actress. Her most famous movies include the 1998 blockbuster Armageddon and the Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001–2003). She is also remembered for her appearance on the Aerosmith music video Crazy (1993). She starred alongside Alicia Silverstone in the video. Liv Tyler was born on July 1, 1977 at Portland, Maine. Her father Steven Tyler is the lead singer of Aerosmith, and her mother Bebe Buell is a model and a singer. However, till she was nine years old, Liv was told that she was the daughter of rock star Todd Rundgren. She became suspicious when she met Steven Tyler at a Rundgren concert. Her suspicion grew when she saw Tyler's daughter Mia, who looked strikingly similar to Liv. She confronted her mother who confessed that Liv was conceived during the eight month long relationship between her mother and Tyler. At the age of 12, Liv changed her name from Liv Rundgren to Liv Tyler. When she was 14, Liv and her mother moved to New York. Though Liv was chubby and awkward while growing up, mostly because of her height, Paulina Porizkova-a family friend-saw potential in Liv and encouraged her to start modeling. Soon, Liv started appearing in magazines such as Seventeen, YM, and Mirabella. However, Liv soon became tired of modeling. She wanted to do something more meaningful and become an actress. In 1994, she appeared in her debut film Silent Fall. However, the movie did not make any waves. She next starred in Heavy (1995) and the box office failure Empire Records (1995). Liv experienced critical acclaim for the first time in 1996. Her portrayal of Lucy, a teen in search of finding her father and losing her virginity, in Bernardo Bertolucci's exquisite film Stealing Beauty got noticed, especially at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival. She next starred in Tom Hanks' film, That Thing You Do! and co-starred with Joaquin Phoenix in Inventing the Abbotts (1997). By the age of 20, Liv had starred in numerous mildly successful films. However, it was not until the release of Armageddon (1998) that she became known to a very wide public. While Liv's beauty and poise were appreciated, she also proved her acting credentials in a series of challenging roles. The most notable among these were Onegin (1999), a movie based on the 19th century Russian novel Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin, and Robert Altman's Cookie's Fortune (1999) and Dr. T & the Women (2000). In 1999, Liv also appeared as herself in the documentary, Franky Goes to Hollywood. In 2001, Liv played an irresistibly destructive seductress in the comedy One Night at McCool's. Her next successful venture was Peter Jackson's hugely popular three-film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolken's Lord of the Rings where she played Arwen, an elf. From her model days to today, Liv has earned much critical acclaim to assert her claim as a bonafide actress, and not just a good looker.
